Caksır honey is a type of honey produced from the Chakshir plant. Since the nectar essence of each honey varies depending on the flower type, the nectar of Chakshir honey comes from the Chakshir plant. The Chakshir plant, mostly found in the Eastern Mediterranean region, grows in cities such as Mersin, Osmaniye, and Kahramanmaraş. Therefore, it is possible to come across the Chakshir plant in the Taurus Mountains.
This plant, usually yellow in color, has an average height of about 2 meters. The discovery of this plant dates back centuries, and it has been used since Central Asia. Nowadays, it is known that honey is also produced from this plant. Due to its endemic vegetation, Chakshir does not grow in many places, indicating that Chakshir honey is produced only in specific regions.
Another feature of the Chakshir plant is the presence of ferritin in its content. This is the source of the aphrodisiac effect of Chakshir, indicating its energizing properties. Chakshir honey is a recently emerged type of honey. Especially because it is produced in the Taurus Mountains, it is not exposed to any chemical substances or agricultural activities. The harvesting of Chakshir honey takes place in August and September, allowing it to be naturally presented to tables.
